Student Growth

Student growth is measured in several ways to support student learning and setting a high standard for our professional educators. The Clio Area Schools recognize that formative assessment has the potential to improve student learning by more than two years and is committed to leveraging these practices to improve learning in our classrooms as an integral part of a balanced assessment system.

For professional staff who serve students who take the M-STEP, half of the obligatory student growth measures for evaluation purposes will use Student Growth Percentiles. This will be recorded using the Michigan Department of Education's SGP Calculator Instrument. The other half of the educators student growth will be measured using Student Learning Objectives for all of the courses they teach. These will be recorded using the Michigan Department of Education's SLO calculator Instrument.

For professional staff who serve students who take the M-STEP, half of the obligatory student growth measures for evaluation purposes will use the Michigan Department of Education's SLO Calculator instrument. Staff will use SLO's for every course they teach.

Our Local Assessments are warehoused within the Illuminate system. SLO's are created through the use of common pre- and post-assessments. These assessments have been created by the teachers who are teaching the courses and review them in Professional Learning Communities throughout the district. Parameters for this work are outlined in the memo linked to this page.

Using student growth in this capacity is a work in progress. In the afore mentioned statement, student growth is meant to support and communicate student learning. It is not meant be be punitive to the people we charge and trust with our children. For transparency purposes, presentations with staff are linked to the right as well. There have been changes to the effectiveness percentage thresholds, based on the concepts of fairness, equity and compliance with State law and Michigan Department of Education guidance.

Students who have exclusionary factors that teachers/administrators believe should be omitted from the data set are to be shared here: Exclusionary Factors Link
