Clio Area Schools' 3rd Grade Reading Success Plan

Our mission is to build a solid foundation for success for each child in our learning community. To ensure the success of every student, we are embarking on a District-wide Reading Success Plan. Research suggests that students who are not reading at grade level by the third grade may have limited successes and opportunities later in life including reduced graduation rates, college attendance and military service. To that end, the Clio Area School District is leveraging several literacy strategies that involve a school, home and community partnership to reach every child's potential for success and opportunities to enrich their lives.

The Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators facilitated a study of Early Literacy Essentials by a Literacy Task Force. This group of literacy leaders created several documents and videos to support local districts' efforts in engaging all stakeholders' to improve reading instruction and student learning. The Clio Area Schools is leveraging this work to create some extremely powerful practices to engage our kids' passion and success in the world of reading.

The 10 Essential Literacy Practices and how Clio teachers are incorporating them into daily learning experiences with our kids:
